Synovitis
Synovitis is the inflammation of synovial membrane characterized by pain particularly on motion and swelling.
What is synovial membrane?
Synovial membrane is the inner membrane of tissue that lines a joint. It secretes synovial fluid which serves to lubricate the joint and reduce the friction between bones in joints. There are various disease processes that affect the nature of this synovial fluid because of inflammation and disease in the synovial membrane which results in excessive fluid production. The fluid produced by inflamed synovial membrane generally has a lower viscosity (more watery). This is a sign of disturbance in production of hyaluronic acid, which is the key ingredient providing lubrication in the joint fluid.
CausesĀ
Synovitis may occur in association with arthritis as well as lupus, gout, and other conditions. Synovitis is more commonly found in rheumatoid arthritis than in other forms of arthritis, and can thus serve as a distinguishing factor, although it can present to a lesser degree in osteoarthritis. It may also be associated with rheumatic fever, tuberculosis, trauma, or gout. Long term occurrence of synovitis can result in degeneration of the joint.
Symptoms of Synovitis
– Swelling
Because of the mass of inflammatory cells in rheumatoid arthritis the joint appears swollen and feels puffy or boggy to the touch.
– Pain
Synovitis causes joint tenderness or pain, swelling and hard lumps, called nodules. When associated with rheumatoid arthritis, swelling is a better indicator than tenderness
– Warmth
The increased blood flow that is a feature of the inflammation makes the joint warm.
Homeopathic symptoms and cure
Homeopathy has numerous remedies for treating synovitis. Homeopathy treatment is symptoms based on individuality of the patient. There are different remedies for people depending upon their attitudes, mental state, behaviors, sleeping patterns, lifestyles and of course, the symptoms of the disease
Homeopathic medicines need to be individually prescribed to the unique pattern of symptoms that sick people experience. Few of symptoms which can be effectively treated by homoeopathy are as follows.
1. Joint hot red painful, throbbing and swollen worse from the slightest motion. Shooting pain along the limbs. Joints shining with red streaks radiating. tottering gait. Shifting rheumatic pain.
2. Stabbing pain that is better when absolutely still, worse on movement and in dry, cold weather, and is relieved by pressure, strong bandaging and rest and lying on the affected part.
3. Joint stiff and swollen with tearing pains, worse by cold damp weather and better by warmth and gentle exercise. Pain and stiffness, often brought on by cold and damp and improved by heat. Pains are worse on initial movement, especially in the morning, but better after continuous motion.
4. Synovitis with pain in the joint, worse on first rising from sitting, at night and also worse from the heat of the bed.
5. Chronic Synovitis, with swelling and difficulty of movement. Bone pain with easy sweating, especially around the feet. Ulceration of bone.
6. For long-standing cases that are slow to respond. Backache following a strain. Worse on beginning to move, and better by continued motion.
7. Synovitis, especially of the knee joint; there are sharp lancinating, stinging pains shooting through the joint and aggravation from the slightest motion. There is effusion into the joint, a so-called white swelling, and the pains are relieved by cold application. It corresponds especially to scrofulous conditions.
8. Synovitis, especially of the knee joint; there are sharp lancinating, stinging pains shooting through the joint and aggravation from the slightest motion. There is effusion into the joint, a so-called white swelling, and the pains are relieved by cold application. It corresponds especially to scrofulous conditions.
9. Synovitis especially in children with dropsy at the knee joint.
10. Spongy swelling of the joint, a feeling of heat inside the joint, and a gnawing boring pain, which is worse at night and accompanied with restlessness.
11. Synovitis joint is pale red and tense, with sharp, stitching pains, worse by motion and relieved by the warmth of the bed.
12. Acute traumatic synovitis where there is an effusion into the joint; the parts are sensitive; the pains are aching and tearing with but little fever. Better by cold application.
13. Prominent swelling of the joints, which show fluctuation and indolence. There is stiffness of the joints.
14. Gouty, rheumatic or synovitis; the joints are swollen, with sharp, stinging pains, which force the patient to move the part. There is a feeling of deep soreness, as of sub-cutaneous ulceration.
15. Synovitis, with tendency to complete destruction of the joint. The general symptoms worse at night, profuse sweating, feeling of coldness and chilliness, restlessness.
